The blonde loose-forward, who has become a stalwart for the Kimberley-based union, was on loan to the Toyota Cheetahs for the PRO14 competition before it was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Schooled at Hoërskool Klerksdorp, Koen made a name for himself at schoolboy rugby before playing a handful of games for the Sharks XV.
From there came the move to Griquas where his career flourished, playing 72 times for the province and scoring 10 tries in the process.
He played three games for the Cheetahs in PRO14, scoring one try.
The move to France should suit his physical style of rugby.
