Schalk Oelofse

Schalk Oelofse
Biography

Born and raised in Port Elizabeth, Schalk Oelofse turned out for Eastern Province at two consecutive U18 Craven Weeks, before signing a junior provincial contract with the Cell C Sharks. After appearing for the Durban-based outfit in the U21 Currie Cup of 2008, he returned to the Eastern Cape to enrol at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, starring in three Varsity Cup campaigns. A lock who can play both the enforcer and lineout-caller roles, Oelofse not only represented the EP Kings in the 2013 Vodacom Cup, but he was also selected for the South African Universities team in 2013.

The ambitious SWD Eagles enlisted Schalk’s services for their Currie Cup campaign, where he racked up forty appearances before earning a Super Rugby debut in the colours of the Southern Kings. Ideally suited to the physical rigours of the French game, two seasons at Mont de Marsan further reinforced his reputation as a valuable source of experience in the second row. When the Southern Kings entered the ranks of the Guinness Pro 14 and needed to solidify their set piece, they called upon Schalk to provide them with an aggressive edge.
