PJ van Lill
Born and raised in southern Namibia, PJ van Lill attended Stellenbosch University in South Africa, before earning selection for the Namibian national team in 2006. He marked his debut against Tunisia with a try and continued to impress for the Welwitchias when they joined South Africa’s Vodacom Cup competition. Despite the team struggling in its early years, van Lill thrived in the intensity of the professional game and soon caught the attention of Aurillac in France’s Pro D2.
He became a staple in their starting line-up and Dax came calling in time for the 2014/15 season. An accomplished leader and lineout option, PJ signed with the ambitious Bayonne team in 2015, helping them win promotion to the Top 14 at the end of his first season. He has remained in the Basque Country ever since, whilst also managing to play at a remarkable three Rugby World Cups for Namibia. A seasoned campaigner who thrives in adversity, PJ van Lill brings the grunt needed in the imposing modern game.
