Pieter Morton
A former Head Boy of Ben Viljoen High School, Pieter Morton represented the Pumas U19 Currie Cup team whilst he was still at school, before signing a junior contract with the Blue Bulls. After winning the Varsity Cup U20 Young Guns competition with the University of Pretoria, Morton turned out for the Free State Cheetahs in Sevens and the U21 Currie Cup. A season with the University of Johannesburg drew the attention of the Abu Dhabi Saracens, where Pieter scored 24 tries in one season, before joining cross-town rivals Harlequins.
With higher honours awaiting him, Morton signed with Fédérale 1 club Trélissac in 2016, showing off impressive handling that comes from his sevens pedigree. Alternating between the number 12 and 13 jerseys, his uncompromising aggression caught the eye of Dijon, where Pieter enhanced his reputation as a ball-carrier who requires numerous defenders to bring him to ground. However, it was his move to Chambéry that cemented Morton’s reputation as one of Fédérale 1’s most destructive midfielders. With 23 consecutive starts in the 2018/19 season, his nine tries showed that the 27-year-old’s professionalism and dedication to conditioning will reap rewards for any team he represents.
