A product of the impressive Hoër Landbouskool Oakdale, Piet-Louw Strauss first represented his province as a 13-year-old, going on to turn out for the SWD Eagles at the U16 Grant Khomo Week, U18 Academy Week and U18 Craven Week. So impressive was the mobile front ranker that he was aggressively recruited by the Blue Bulls, where Strauss signed his first professional contract. His time in Pretoria proved to be fruitful, as Piet-Louw thrived in the intensity of both the U19 and U21 Currie Cup. At just 21-years-old, Strauss caught the eye of USA Perpignan and the move to France saw him work his way through the Espoir ranks, enjoying a debut in the abrasive Pro D2 against Dax.
A return to South Africa led to Varsity Cup silverware with Maties and a Currie Cup debut with Western Province. When the Southern Kings sought a prop who could withstand the pace of the Guinness Pro 14, they summarily drafted Strauss into their 2017/18 squad. With the pedigree that came with playing against some of the best players in Europe, he was signed by the Pumas ahead of the 2018/19 season, where the 26-year-old loosehead showed why pundits tipped Piet-Louw Strauss as a man approaching the prime of his career.
