First rising to prominence with a callup to the Fijian national Sevens squad in 2016, Meli Rokoua was born in Nadi and attended Ratu Navula College. The school is known for producing outstanding athletes and Rokoua’s versatility is indicative of a player who adds value in every facet of the game. Whether it be as a barnstorming winger, a centre who draws numerous defenders, or even a back rower (when the team requires), Meli has shown an ability to perform under pressure.
A stint at AEIS Agronomia lit up Portuguese domestic rugby, and it wasn’t long before Rokoua showed his worth in one of the world’s premier domestic competitions, the Guinness Pro 14. The Southern Kings pride themselves on a ball-in-hand approach and Meli became a darling of the Eastern Cape when his mid-air offload saw the young franchise earn a historic win over Edinburgh in January 2019.
