Marcell Muller

Born and raised in Bloemfontein, Marcell Muller is yet another supremely talented athlete to emerge from the esteemed Grey College. A natural born leader from a young age, the all-rounder first represented Free State in the U13 Craven Week, whilst simultaneously earning provincial call-ups in hockey and athletics. Broad shouldered and blessed with immense leg drive, Muller’s raw pace was cultivated on the track, as he became a household name in national 200m and 400m races. It came as no surprise when a young Marcel turned out on the wing for Grey, brushing off defenders and rounding his opponent with equally frequent ferocity.
Dependable under the high ball and in counterattack, it was Muller’s route-one physicality and habitual line-breaks that saw him garner attention from professional clubs, both locally and abroad. Keen to embrace a new challenge, Marcel made the decision to join one of Europe’s most successful clubs, Montpellier. A Covid affected season saw Muller return to South Africa, where his hometown Cheetahs welcomed the opportunity to sign one of their most impressive products. He was immediately drafted into the franchises’ senior squad and duly earned a professional debut in 2021. Born with the rare ability to single-handedly turn the tide of a match, Marcell Muller is x-factor personified.
