A former student of the prestigious Paarl Boys High School, Liam Hendricks first represented his province at the U16 Grant Khomo Week, before going on to turn out for Western Province in the U18 Craven Week two years later. He remained in Cape Town and signed his first professional contract with Western Province, enjoying a starring role in the 2013 edition of the U19 Currie Cup. Playing in all twelve matches of the competition, Liam was drafted in the Maties Varsity Cup squad in 2014, where he soon drew national attention.
After helping WP lift the U21 Currie Cup in 2015, Hendricks’ mobility around the park caught the attention of the Southern Kings and he made his Super Rugby debut against the Cheetahs in 2016. Seeking a fresh challenge and the promise of consistent game time, the player known for his work rate and willingness to carry the ball moved to Kimberley, where he signed with the ambitious Griquas team. He thrived in the squad’s rush defence and routinely tracked down backline players who underestimated his speed off the mark. Aside from possessing traits of a modern front ranker, the 25-year-old is also a wily scrummager who has been known to dominate many an experienced tighthead at the set piece.
