A student at the esteemed Pretoria Boys High School, Kyle Meadows has been described as one of the most technically mature schoolboy talents in South Africa. English-qualified Meadows (through ancestry) first represented the Blue Bulls at the U13 Craven Week, emerging as an incredibly physical loose forward, before shifting to the backline. His acceleration was undeniable, but it was Kyle’s ability to take the ball flat and dominate the advantage line that caught the attention of onlookers and pundits. Ever the barnstorming inside centre (in the Andre Esterhuizen mould), Meadows’ innate talent of marshalling his own backline in defence convinced coaches that he could also provide value as a thirteen.
Despite the Blue Bulls region possessing some of the greatest depth in age-group rugby, Meadows formed part of their junior High Performance structures and was tipped for higher honours, but missed out on selection due to concussion in a training camp. Nevertheless, his performances for the University of Pretoria (Tuks) Rugby Club and his raw speed in the sevens format have shown that Kyle Meadows possess all the attributes to suggest that his breaking through to the senior professional ranks is not a matter of ‘if’, but rather of ‘when’.
