Pieter Jansen van Vuren

Born in Pretoria, Pieter Jansen van Vuren attended Klerksdorp Hoërskool in the North West province, before turning out for the Valke in the U19 Currie Cup of 2010. Enrolling at the famed University of Pretoria, Pieter turned out for Tuks in the Carlton Cup, before enjoying three Varsity Cup campaigns. It was here where Jansen van Vuren began to garner attention on the national stage, and he duly caught the eye of the ambitious Griquas. A relative late developer by modern standards, Pieter made his senior professional debut in 2017 Supersport Challenge, starting in ten fixtures and making the number five jersey his own.
Stamping his authority on the 2017/18 season, Jansen van Vuren showed his ball-carrying prowess by scoring three tries and becoming a Currie Cup regular. A master of the set piece, the lineout general was heavily recruited by the Mpumalanga Pumas, where he enjoyed a Super Rugby SA stint, once again showing his work rate against some of the top talent in regional rugby. With a steady upward career trajectory, Pieter joined the Lions in the United Rugby Championship ahead of the 2021/22 season, enjoying standout performances against the Sharks, Scarlets, and Glasgow Warriors. Starting in 58 of his 66 professional appearances, Pieter Jansen van Vuren is a second rower that is proven at the highest level.
