Josh Strauss

A former student of the legendary Paul Roos Gymnasium, Josh Strauss attended Stellenbosch University and turned out for Maties in the early years of the Varsity Cup. A leader from the outset, Strauss’ determination and aggressive ball-carrying ability soon drew the attention of the Lions, where he made his Super Rugby debut in 2011. Josh went on to lift the Currie Cup trophy as captain of the Golden Lions later that year and began training with the Springbok squad. Renowned for his abrasive defensive displays and a dependable lineout jumper, he signed a three-year contract with the Glasgow Warriors in 2012, culminating in a test debut for Scotland in time for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Able to seamlessly alternate between No. 8 and blindside flank, Josh went on to join the Sale Sharks in 2017. Two years in Manchester saw Strauss thrive on the both the European and international stage, before taking up a short-term opportunity with Stade Français during the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Currently lending his experience to the Bulls in Super Rugby, Josh Strauss continues to physically dominate both the collision and break down.
