Jeanluc Cilliers

Jeanluc Cilliers

Born in Cape Town in the Western Cape of South Africa, Jeanluc Cilliers attended one of the world’s most prolific rugby institutions, Paarl Boys High School. From a young age, the level-headed talisman earned a reputation as a reliable last line of defence, intelligent gamebreaker and match-winning goal kicker. Bringing considerable value as both a flyhalf and fullback, Cilliers signed a junior provincial contract with the Golden Lions after completing his schooling and quickly entrenched his place in the U19 Currie Cup squad. Not only did Jeanluc top the point scorers’ log of the U19 Currie Cup, but he did also so by a massive margin of 50 points.

This grabbed the attention of national coaches and Cilliers was summarily selected for the South African squad for the World Rugby U20 Championship, where he donned the number 15 jersey. Returning to Johannesburg, he showed his customary big match temperament by winning Man of the Match in the U21 Currie Cup Final of 2018, kicking six penalties and five conversions, his personal haul of 28 points proving to be the difference on the day. A senior profession debut came at just 20 years of age, where a string of senior professional starts at flyhalf confirmed that Jeanluc possesses all the maturity and x-factor to guarantee any team points on the score board.
