Born in Kroonstad, James Verity-Amm was raised in the Western Cape, where he attended Hottentots Holland High School in Somerset West. The region is known to possess some of the greatest junior rugby depth on the planet, but James summarily earned selection for Western Province’s U19 Currie Cup squad of 2013. He once again featured in WP’s junior setup in 2014, but it was in 2015 that the balanced runner drew international attention. Scoring eleven tries in seven Varsity Shield appearances, Verity-Amm was the toast of UWC, before taking up a life-changing opportunity at the Western Force.
Blessed with raw pace and an enviable side-step, James made his Super Rugby debut in 2017 on the wing, before showing his versatility as a midfielder for the Perth Spirit in the NRC. Five tries in eight starts once again highlighted his considerable pedigree, leading the ACT Brumbies to enlist James’ services in 2018. Injury and Covid-19 disrupted his time in Canberra, but a return home to South Africa served to amplify his growing list of sporting admirers. Three scores in four Super Rugby SA appearances underlined his prowess as an experienced and destructive outside back, and he continued this vein of form in the Currie Cup that followed. Composed, reliable and blessed with x-factor in spades, James Verity-Amm is truly a player in demand.
