Born in Cape Town, Hacjivah Dayimani discovered a passion for rugby in an Eastern Cape primary school, before attending President High School in Johannesburg. Scouted by the esteemed Jeppe High School, Hacjivah soon established himself as a standout athlete, representing the Golden Lions at the U16 Grant Khomo Week, U18 Academy Week and U18 Craven Week in consecutive years. A rapidly quick back rower who broke tackles at will, it came as no surprise when Dayimani represented the South African U18 Schools team in 2015, whilst also earning gold with the SA U18 Sevens team at the Junior Commonwealth Games.
Choosing to sign a professional contract with the Lions, Hacjivah’s decision to remain in Johannesburg turned out to be a masterstroke, as he earned a senior professional debut in the 2017 Supersport Challenge at just 19 years of age. A first Super Rugby start came less than a year later, and he soon made the number 8 jersey his own against some of the world’s best players. Equally capable of beating a defender with either pace or power, Dayimani’s ball-carrying ability has seen him called upon as a blindside flanker to provide impetus in wider channels, where the Lions have also occasionally used him as a winger. Quite simply, Dayimani is blessed with the type of x-factor that comes once in a generation.
