Born and bred in Johannesburg, Clinton Theron attended Hoerskool Florida, a school renowned for producing tough-as-nails front rankers. He first represented his province at the U16 Grant Khomo Week of 2011, repeating the feat at the U18 Craven Week. With his physical maturity and brute strength clear for all to see, the Golden Lions wasted no time in offering Theron a junior provincial contract, culminating in stellar performances in the U19 and U21 Currie Cup. Enjoying a senior professional debut at just 19-years-old, Clinton transformed from an impact player to starting tighthead, providing enough evidence for the Lions Super Rugby coaches to reward him with a Super Rugby debut in 2016.
This first appearance came against the Jaguares, a team renowned for their scrummaging excellence, but Theron was equal to the task. Although comfortable as a Loosehead, Clinton’s technical proficiency has seen him thrive as a Tighthead, and a move to the ambitious Boland Kavaliers saw him wrack up over 40 first class appearances for the ambitious union. Never one to shy away from a new challenge, Clinton signed with VVA Moscow in February 2020, bringing his pedigree and considerable frame to the Russian Professional Rugby League. With many years ahead of him, Theron provides tremendous value and x-factor.
