Christiaan Erasmus

A product of Nelspruit High School in Mpumalanga, Christiaan Erasmus represented the Pumas at the U18 Craven Week of 2013. Strong performances from the base of the scrum drew the attention of the Free State Cheetahs, who lured the promising young halfback to Bloemfontein in time for the 2014 season. Impressive showings during the U19 Currie Cup saw him graduate to their U21 Currie Cup squad, but it was in the Varsity Cup that Christiaan showed his true versatility.
In the colours of the Central University of Technology, he was called upon to slot in on the wing, where his pace and power could be fully utilized. So impressive was the young Erasmus as an outside back, that he signed with Fédérale 1 club Stade Niortais at the culmination of the 2017 Currie Cup season. Not only does his time spent at scrumhalf enable Christiaan to read the game with ease, his passing is understandably immaculate. Standing at 94kg and blessed with acceleration off the mark, the undoubted strength of Erasmus’ game is his counter-attacking ability, whether at centre, wing or at fullback.
