BRANDON MUDZEKENYEDZI

BRANDON MUDZEKENYEDZI
Biography

Born in Harare, Zimbabwe; Brandon Mudzekenyedzi grew up in New Zealand and established himself as a schoolboy talent to be reckoned with. The multi-talented athlete represented the City of Lower Hutt in basketball before earning provincial selection for the Wellington U16 rugby team. He went on to represent the union at U18 and sevens, before pursuing his studies in Japan. Three years spent at Ryutsu Keizai University culminated in a call-up to the Japan Universities team, before Brandon returned home to form part of the New Zealand Sevens Development & Chiefs Development programmes.

A tall and powerful midfielder, Mudzekenyedzi intelligently targets the outside gap to either outpace his opponent or draw numerous defenders before offloading in contact. His Sevens pedigree & ability to play wing or fullback caught the attention of the Waikato coaching staff, with 2019 seeing Brandon set a marker in arguably the most competitive domestic competition in world rugby, New Zealand’s Mitre 10 Cup.
