BOBBY DE WEE

Born in Klerksdorp and a native of the North West Province, Bobby de Wee represented the Leopards at the U16 Grant Khomo Week and immediately made an impression on the schoolboy rugby fraternity. His performances led to a scholarship offer to attend Southdowns College, enabling Bobby to move to Pretoria and complete his schooling in the Blue Bulls region. Two consecutive U18 Craven Week appearances were followed by a Bulls U19 Currie Cup campaign, before De Wee’s dominant displays saw the Golden Lions aggressively recruit the destructive lock.
With a senior professional debut at the age of 20, Bobby’s versatility became a hallmark of his game in three influential Currie Cup campaigns. Not only is he able to take on the roles of both aggressive second row enforcer and athletic lineout merchant, but his speed to the breakdown and considerable frame have also led to impressive ball-carrying numbers. His pedigree was clear for all to see and since joining the Southern Kings, many a European pundit has identified De Wee as one of the Guinness Pro 14’s most valuable performers.
