Albert Liebenberg

A former student at HTS Drostdy in Worcester, Albert Liebenberg’s leadership credentials were clear when he was selected as Deputy Head Boy of the school in his final year. The largest technical high school in the country, Drostdy are recognized for their brutal physicality on the rugby field, and Albert has never been one to shy away from the collision. With that said, mobility and speed has always been a hallmark of his game, and the ranging Liebenberg first represented the Boland Kavaliers at U17 level in their provincial Sevens team. He went on to earn selection for Boland at the U18 Craven Week of the following year, where he once again showcased his maturity and level-headedness by captaining the team from the second row.
Looking to further his studies, Albert enrolled at Stellenbosch University and made an immediate impact on the U20 Varsity Cup squad of the world’s biggest rugby club, Maties. Time spent in the back row highlighted Liebenberg’s jaw-dropping work rate, and he can often be found running off the shoulder of a centre, before dropping a gear and outpacing would-be defenders in the back field. Ever the lineout general, Albert not only takes control of the set piece, but he is also renowned for his unashamedly destructive cleanouts of rucks and high tackle count in every game.
