Adriaan van der Bank

Adriaan van der Bank
Biography

Having attended Worcester Gimnasium in northern Boland, Adriaan van der Bank emerged as a standout performer and leader at a young age. The pivot’s ability to identify space was highlighted as a feature that showed maturity and level headedness beyond his years, turning out for the Boland Kavaliers at both the U16 Grant Khomo Week and U18 Craven Week of 2015. Van der Bank shone in the latter, kicking a 45-metre penalty and last-minute drop goal to secure a victory against the Border Bulldogs, and show that he held all the necessary big match temperament to progress to the highest level.

Adriaan was duly rewarded with the offer of a junior provincial contract with Western Province, and he became a staple in the U19 Currie Cup of 2016. Despite his provincial exploits, it was in the colours of Stellenbosch University that van der Bank first drew nationwide acclaim, both as a game-breaking flyhalf and a dependable last line of defence. As a fullback, Adriaan’s booming left boot pegged opponents deep into their own territory, whilst his incredibly consistent goalkicking kept the scoreboard ticking over, leading to title-winning campaigns in the Varsity Cup, WP Super League A, and USSA Week. A seasoned Varsity Cup campaigner, he hass shown a readiness to dominate senior professional competitions.
