Pieter-Steyn de Wet

Pieter-Steyn de Wet
Biography

Having attended the prestigious Paarl Gymnasium, Pieter-Steyn de Wet represented Western Province in the U19 Currie Cup, before making a move to the Free State in 2011. He turned out for the Cheetahs at every level, whilst also enjoying game time with the Griffons in the Currie Cup 1st Division. The EP Kings provided Pieter with an opportunity to start in the Currie Cup Premier Division, and despite a difficult 2016 campaign for the team, de Wet’s performances were enough to convince the Southern Kings that he deserved a shot at the big time.

De Wet formed part of the giant-killing Super Rugby squad of 2017 and an ability to marshal his backline was a crucial contributing factor in the superb try-scoring form of the Kings outside backs. It came as no surprise that his consistency caught the eye of Pro D2’s Aurillac and a 2018/19 debut season showed just how versatile the experienced pivot has proven to be. Not only is he an impressively accurate goal-kicker, but the flyhalf also performed excellently at fullback and even started at scrumhalf against an extraordinary Brive team.
