Toulouse coach Ugo Mola has praised diminutive speedster Cheslin Kolbe, who is making a big impact in the Top 14 since his August move.
The 24-year-old arrived at Toulouse in August from the Cape Town-based franchise Stormers and has scored six tries from just eight appearances so far.
Most recently, he bagged a brace in a 38-37 win against Bordeaux.
Kolbe is also winning over fans as the crowd at Stade Ernest-Wallon chanted his name following a second half interception that brought the house down.
He will be used to this as he was also a darling of the Newlands faithful where he was used primarily as a full-back under then coach Allister Coetzee before Robbie Fleck shifted him to the wing in 2016.
Toulouse coach Mola is very impressed with Kolbe.
“This is all the more a good recruit, when you fight to have a boy of 70 kilos while everyone asks you if you are sure, because the others take boys of 120 or 130 kilos,” he told French website Rugbyrama.
“Cheslin Kolbe is a different guy who will gradually finish filling the stadium which was already almost full … it’s super nice.”
Uncapped at international level, Kolbe is unavailable for the Springboks until 2019 in line with SA Rugby’s newly-implemented policy on overseas-based players.
